Nieman Marcus Target.

I heard the best news ever a couple days ago when I saw an ad saying that Nieman Marcus and Target were collaborating for a holiday special! A number of designers will be featured in Target stores. What a joy it is to go purchase a Marc Jacobs scarf from my neighborhood Target! Oscar de La Renta, Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs are just a few of the designers that have items for sale in Target. Not only will clothing items be showcased, but tote bags, travel bags, shoes, jewelry, christmas ornaments, and more.
It is a MUST to check out Target for all the top designer pieces.

Green.

I have been in a really "Green" kind of a mood lately. Green food, going green, and green clothes. Not only is it my favorite color, but my favorite colored jean. I love the that colored jeans can be worn in a variety of ways. I plan on sporting my hunter green pants tomorrow. That will surely fulfill the greenness that has consumed my life lately :)

Pink.

Never been a huge fan of the color pink, but I was at Pinkitzel cupcakes and the pink fluffy light fixtures made me think about what a pretty look using those shades of pink. I'm excited to experiment with this!

Leggings.

Do you ever have those last days where you have to look some what presentable, but you simply don't have the energy? Well, there are some cute simple styles that are not only trendy, but comfortable and easy to throw on. Leggings are my savior for days that I just can't go the extra mile. I like to throw on an over sized shirt, blouse, or sweater with leggings and boots. It's extremely comfortable and still keeps you from reverting to sweat pants! This is a very quick style as well. It's also fun to mix up different color leggings and shirts. Those mornings when you hit snooze a hundred times and are running late for class give this style a shot :)

Be inspired.

So, I have been thinking a lot about different things that can inspire a great outfit. Food, photos, cars..anything! So I took this picture of my nachos because I love all the colors and think this color combination would make a great look! Going to give it a shot!

LV.

I have always wanted a LV bag but they are so expensive so I have never been able to get one! I have been doing some searching on eBay and found some gently used bags that are in really good shape and a really good price! Typically you are going to pay $900 at least for almost any style. eBay has a variety to choose from starting at $350! That's one heck of a deal for a regular $900 bag. Some of the bags also come with a certificate of authenticity which makes this deal all the more worth it. Here is one of the bags I have been looking at

LA Pumps.

I bought some awesome shoes when I went to LA earlier this month. My Friend there told me that these are the "it" shoes to wear in LA. I got them from a place called The Alley for $35. At least the "it" shoes are affordable :)

International Festival.

The International Festival was a really great experience that taught me a lot about different cultures and countries. I had a really good time trying the food and mingling with students for each country. I really enjoyed learning about India.  I think it is so cool that their state bird is a Peacock and that wild animals like the Indian tiger roam freely. I really like spicy food so trying the food from India was extra enjoyable because it was spicy. I think that every student at the festival learned a little bit about the wide range of cultures that make up our world. It was also interesting to see the different clothing each of the countries wore. I love that Nepal had really colorful outfits with lots of beading and jewels. Overall it was amazing to see different people from different walks of life coming together to embrace and learn more about each other.

Career day outfit.

One of the great things about being a mass communications major is that the work attire does not have to be so corporate! Check out my outfit for the OKC AD club career day.

Rodeo.

Went to LA this past weekend and did a little browsing on Rodeo Drive. It was an amazing experience to get to see one of the most famous shopping districts in the country. What I really liked about it was that it not only had the high end stores there were some affordable stores as well. It was an experience of a lifetime and I recommend every gal to visit at least once in your life!

Alan Smith.

Guest speaker, Alan smith had a really interesting journalism background. I thought it was especially interesting that he didn’t start writing until he was 50.  Smith discussed his past and how he used to teach English in a prison and how he met some interesting people and heard interesting stories. “Never write for nothing” is something Smith said that really stuck with me.  He told our class to never write unless you are getting paid to and that writing for someone without pay shows that they do not value your work.  He wrote his first novel after earning his masters.
He discussed how it was somewhat difficult to get people to care about his novel because he was 50 years old and people did not see what he had to offer. Smith referred to himself as a print and paper guy vs. a blogging guy.  “Being apart of the blogosphere is like being a tree in the forest, you’re lost.”  Smith stated that on a blog you are your own editor and that journalism cannot be trusted.  My favorite thing that Smith shared was “If you’re too stupid and use the apostrophe you are too stupid to get a degree from this university.” He talked about how important grammar is and he runs a pretty tight ship with his students in England.
I found it interesting that he finds American college students to be more grammatically inclined than English students. He teaches creative writing in the English department at The University of North Hampton.  The students who attend that university have to finish college in three years, no exceptions. Smith did not speak much about blogs or blogging, but I feel like I really got something out of the things he shared. Above all else he was awesome to listen to and had a great sense of humor.

Go Vintage.

I think that the best way to understand the fashion in world today is to know where it/we came from.  I really appreciate vintage couture and love mixing and matching pieces that I find in consignment shops with new styles. If your mom has some of her jewelery from "back in the day" have a look through it and see what you can find. That is what I did with these rings below. Both of these rings were my mothers from the 80's. Pretty cool!

Betsy.

Watches these days are essential. Not only for telling time, but to make a fashion statement. I found this Betsy Johnson watch below at Ross for $50. I thought it was a pretty good find because it retails for twice that much. Ross is another good place for finding top brands for good prices.

Teal.

I never really go in the store Charlotte Russe in the mall, but a few weeks ago I decided to give it a look. I forgot how many great finds you can find in the sale bins. I found this fun teal necklace below for $10. I was pretty excited about it so, I will be going in there to dig through the sale bins more often!

Vera Love.

TJ Maxx has some of the most incredible finds when trying to look great on a budget.  The great thing about this store is they retail top designer brands at reasonable prices.  I have never left this store disappointed and always refer my friends to it.  They get new shipment every week so, there are always new items to explore.  The other good thing about this store is they only carry a few of the same items so, you can always look unique. I found these Vera Wang boots below a couple days ago at TJ Maxx and fell in love! They retailed for $400.00 but I got them for $199.99. I would say that a pretty good find!

Covering Dave Rhea.

What I learned from Mr. Dave Rhea is that it is important to frequently update your blog with new posts.  Keeping your blog up to date keeps readers following and interested.  I think that I will definitely apply this tactic to my blog in order to keep up with my followers.  Posting popular content is another way to get people interested in my blog.  Perhaps discussing an important event going on in society right now might get people interested to read what I have to say about it.  I think that Dave Rhea’s speech will really help me explore the blogging world in a variety of ways.

Covering Dr. Hochenauer.

Dr. Hochenauer started blogging in 2004 because he believed there was a deep need for Liberal commentary in Oklahoma. He has experience with politics and journalism for over 30 years. Hochenauer discussed how his blog did not generate any revenue, but that he had been offered numerous advertisements.  I think that the most beneficial topic that I gained for my blog was that it is really easy to gain readership and revenue.  According to his speech posting popular pictures can be one simply way to get people to view your blog. Another important thing I learned from his speech was that social media has had a major effect on the blogs. Hochenauer discussed how he gets more hits or “likes” from making an insignificant statement on his facebook page than relevant topics on his blog.  At this point in time social media is one of the things that can keep up with the way that people want their news. Concise, to the point, and easy to read it the way that people in this day and age like to get their information.  The average person attention span is about 15 seconds due to all of the smart phone apps and social media used.  After listening to Hochenauer spoke about this issue it made me think about the future of my blog and how I want it to come across.  In order gain and keep readers I think posts should be as social media posts are, concise and to the point.

Bangles.

Assorted bangles always give that extra something to a look and I love wearing a watch with them. I think that it is almost essential to wear a watch these days so, why not add some fun bangles with it! With these bangles I mixed some earth tones and gold and then of course the gold watch. Give this a try it's trendy and fun!

Watch: Francesca's $14.99
Assorted Bangles: J. Crew $20.00

Gotta Love MK.

Michael Kors is a fabulous designer that makes looking expensive not too unaffordable! I just recently bought a pair flats from his fall flat collection from www.nordstrom.com. Taupe flats have made a statement this year and under certain circumstances would be considered the new black. Instead of reaching for you basic black pair of flats to complete a look grab a pair of taupe MK's!

Taupe MK flats:$129.00

New York Times Article.

The article I choose to write about from The New York Times is titled
"London's Olympic Glow Is Undimmed."  This article discusses the correlation London designers have made with this summers Olympics'.  In particular designer Christopher Bailey featured a hat collection that displayed the same metallic tones as London's opening ceremony. He also designed a trench coat with handbags that portrayed the same Olympic like theme. Bailey was searching for a way to bring London's international heritage into the fashion world.

Before reading this article I would have never thought to incorporate the Olympics into fashion.  I found this article very interesting an beneficial to my blog. This article allowed me to open mind to new creative ideas for fashion that I did not think were possible. An Olympic inspired collection..who knew? I think originality is key and fashion has very little boundaries in terms of what certain pieces stem from.  I hope that I can be inspired from things such as this and incorporate it into my everyday apparel.
